Messi Contract Renewal
Messi Set to Become Highest Paid Player on the Planet if He Signs New Contract
Lionel Messi will become the highest paid player in the world if he signs the new contract, according to Goal.com.
"It is an essential renewal for the club," Bartomeu said in January. "The
sooner it's finalised, the better. We will do whatever it takes. All
parties want to come to an agreement, so there has to be a happy ending.
Hopefully he retires at the club.
Representatives of both Messi and Barca have been in
negotiations for some time and now there are only some minor details to
agree upon before the deal can be concluded. The 30-year-old is currently back in Argentina to tie the knot with his long-term girl-friend.
Messi would reportedly earn over €22
million after tax in the four-year extension, with the option of one
more, meaning that he would be earning more than any other footballer.
Sources are claiming that
while Messi is planning to stay in La Liga, he has been holding
out on finalising the deal until he is sure that he will be paid more
than his rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, with Cristiano's future in Spain is
up in the air.
